WASHINGTON – The National Coalition for Infant Health made the following statement about President-elect Donald Trump’s consideration of a commission on vaccine safety and scientific integrity.
STATEMENT FROM MITCHELL GOLDSTEIN, MD, NATIONAL COALITION FOR INFANT HEALTH MEDICAL DIRECTOR:
“Infectious diseases can pose a real threat to public health, particularly for infants and children. Vaccines and immunizations prevent a number of devastating infections that were responsible for the death and disability of millions. Parents may be misled by sensationalized, anecdotal evidence. Many continue to harbor unwarranted suspicion against these routine–and vital—protections for public health.
“Any commission that examines vaccine safety must root its dialogue in science and must champion logical, evidence-based guidelines and recommendations.
“We would urge the commission to promote policies that protect the progress our country has made toward eradicating dangerous, avoidable infectious diseases.”
