Zika-linked abnormalities detected on prenatal, postnatal ultrasound

Most fetal abnormalities in infants with intrauterine exposure to the Zika virus were detected on prenatal ultrasound images, but some mild brain abnormalities were detected only in postnatal scans, researchers reported in JAMA Pediatrics. MRI and ultrasound monitoring in combination "provided a more complete evaluation of the fetal and neonatal brain," and postnatal imaging "can detect changes not seen on fetal imaging," the researchers wrote.
